An early variation on the Sheraton wheel barometer, having horizontal writing and a short shoulder (the vertical distance from the top inlay to the pediment, about 1 inch). It also has conch shell inlays at the sides, with the green of the sycamore wood still showing, as well as flower inlays at top and bottom. A finial could be added if required.
The maker is C. Civatti of 281 High Holborn, London, and he was working 1810-1830. The case is of mahogany veneer on pine, with a single band of wide boxwood edge stringing.
