M1136 Stick Barometer
Oak stick of very simple design, made specifically for use underground in a mine. Notice that the scale extends to 33 inches instead of the usual 31. One inch of mercury scale is roughly equivalent to 1000 feet of altitude, so this will work comfortably at a depth of 2000 feet - as well as at sea level. The barometer was made by Casartelli in Manchester, England - a known maker of this type of barometer - and has its original mercury thermometer and externally operated vernier.
